Awards & FellowshipsASTC Diversity and Leadership Development Fellowship Program

The overarching purpose of the ASTC Conference Fellowship Program is to provide support for people of color in the science center field. In October 2001, ASTC's Board launched a field-wide Equity and Diversity Initiative to attempt to bring balance in the disparity between the diversity of our society and the diversity of professional staff, audience, and board members of the science center field. The program was designed to support the professional growth and retention of professionals of color currently working in the field.

Award information: Stipends consisting of free early-bird conference registration plus up to $1,000.00 will be awarded to winning Conference Fellows (to cover conference-related travel, lodging, and meals). Upon timely submission of all original receipts and required forms, the award will be disbursed.

Eligibility: Applications are mailed in March or April to Directors and Human Resources Directors of ASTC member science centers located in North America, and to Alumni fellows. Each applicant must complete the application, attach a resumé, and have his or her supervisor and science center director sign the application.

Although there is no limit to the number of applications that a single ASTC member science center or museum may submit, no more than one Alumni Fellow and one Conference Fellow will be selected from a single institution.

Selection: A panel of reviewers familiar with the science center profession and diversity issues will review the applications. Based on evidence that the applicant is committed to promoting equity and diversity, has a long-term vision of her/himself in the science center field, and is at a place careerwise where he or she will benefit from this experience, the panel will select the winners.

Deadline: Completed applications with original signatures and supporting materials must be received by ASTC no later than 5:00pm, May 6, 2008. Please note that we cannot accept faxed or emailed applications.

Submit completed application by mail or delivery service (no faxes, please) to:
